One of the niceties of digital photography, is the ability to snap off dozens and dozens of photos at literally zero cost. Of course one must have a camera in their possession in order to do that. While Im extremely happy with my Canon, I determined something smaller and more convenient to carry would be much more to my liking, in addition to being a lot more useful. After examining several cameras at the usual locations such as Wal-Mart and Best Buy, many of them seemed extremely flimsy. Initially I had some doubts about the Casio but once I started looking into the feature content of the camera and felt its sturdiness in my hand, it moved to the top of my list for purchase consideration.
The 10.1 megapixel Casio Exilim Z1080 offers high performance features in a compact body. The camera produces high-res images even when printing very large sizes including 8x10. Some of the slicker features include a 2.6-inch wide LCD, outstanding battery life (Li-Ion), face detection technology and an auto-tracking AF system using motion analysis technology. For YouTube fans the camera also includes a neat feature that records in the right format to make it easier to upload to their site, sweet. Also worth mentioning is a menu system that seems much more intuitive to me than that found on the Canon camera. Use the camera a few times and I believe most folks will come to appreciate its simplicity.
That doesnt mean this is a simple point and shoot camera although it certainly can be used that way. The camera will allow you to adjust for manual control, on the other hand it includes a best shot mode that almost always guarantees success. I also like the extended battery life which enables me to take hundreds of photos before having to recharge the battery. But with all the great features on this camera the thing I like best is its compact size.
It seems unlikely one camera could contain all the features a consumer might be looking for. In my particular case I guess I just didnt do enough homework because I find myself using the Casio for 95% of my photo needs. However for catching long-distance shots the longer-range lens in the Canon cant be beat. The Canon also includes a viewfinder that can be very beneficial under bright sun when viewing an LCD can become difficult. Therefore I would suggest anyone considering a camera purchase pay particular attention to what theyll be using it for. Years ago I had become accustomed to carrying around heavy bulky 35mm cameras, its so much more convenient to have one of these new compact units in your pocket or purse ready for instant use.
While the Casio may not be the best camera on the market, nor the cheapest, it represents an extremely good value thats certainly worthy of consideration.... |
